Hannah McHugh
Educator & Facilitator
I’m Hannah. An educator and facilitator based in the Pacific Northwest, with fifteen years of experience as a full-time middle school teacher and a degree in Health Education (2008).
I now focus on two areas of work that might seem unrelated at first, but come from the same place for me: Sexual Health Education for elementary, middle and high schoolers, and Anti-Racism facilitation for adults.
Both are built on the same belief — that people are fundamentally good, that harmful patterns (whether it’s racism, shame, or misinformation) are learned, and that real change happens through honest conversation, connection, and being met without judgment. I bring that same approach whether I’m in a classroom talking with teenagers about their health, or in a circle helping adults unlearn racism.
My background
I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Health Education with a Physical Education Emphasis from Northern Arizona University.
I taught Adventure & Wellness, which includes sex education, at Seattle Girls’ School. Since then I have taught and consulted at Hyla Middle & High School, The Meridian School, Annie Wright Schools, and Charles Wright Academy.
My approach
I bring humor, compassion, thoughtfulness, and authenticity into every space I facilitate — whether that’s a classroom of teenagers or a circle of adults.
I create spaces for connection and inquiry. In the classroom, that means creating a space where students feel safe asking real questions and getting developmentally appropriate, judgment-free answers. In my anti-racism work, it means facilitating in community with other white folks — myself included — who are curious, committed, and ready to grow.
When I’m not teaching or facilitating…
You’ll find me running Declutter Kitsap, a home organizing company based in Bremerton; step-parenting three lively kids; or playing board games at a local gaming house.
